Pink

The Strasbourg cathedral was built out of pink sandstone from the mountain range nearby, the Vosges. Pollution blackened it, cleaning is been done for as long as I can remember. A Sisyphus kind of task...

Red barrel street

Street named after an inn, Zum roten Faesslein, 1636 AD. This is the current name, since 1945, although the name changed 18 times since 1275AD. As a reminder, Strasbourg was founded in the year 8 BC, 2033 years ago by roman soldiers, but people were living here long before. When was your town founded?

Among others names, we have a Preaching Fox street, rue du renard prechant... More about it later.

Dolphin 🐬

This is supposed to be a dolphin... Not many dolphins around here, the closest sea is hundreds of km away... Nice restaurant sign anyway.

More b&w here.

Au coin des pucelles

Meaning: to the virgin's corner. A good restaurant in the centre. But, I have another reason to post this, I don't want to promote a business... Someone removed the letter I in the word coin, corner, which totally changed the meaning... Au con des pucelles = to the virgin's...cunt. Naughty naughty...

It's situated at the corner of the virgin's street, the virgin Mary.

The old wine market

Known as the frog ditch during the 14th century. No wine sold there anymore. And no frogs around either.

Apples

A billionaire's shop on the main square, next to some coffee company based in Seattle. As a coffee aficionado, I avoid the place.
Among other news, Apple just got fined 150 million euros in France for abuse of dominant position... My phone is Android, my desktop PC and my laptop are both with Windows...

Kinderspielgass

A pedestrian street in the town centre. The Alsatian name means children's play street, rue du jeu des enfants in French. Yes, streets here often have 3 names: Alsatian, French and German. In medieval times, it was the wine market.  The street goes was to roman times, BC.
