So many names!!!

Here, we call them knack. Further down in France, they are called Strasbourg sausages. Elsewhere, they are franks, frankfurters, in Germany, they are called Wiener, viennese sausages. Very international things! How do you call them?
History tells us they were first invented in Strasbourg, some 500 years ago. Best with mustard, or with sauerkraut!

Disappearing act

The unedited view from my kitchen window, 5 minutes ago. The outside world is disappearing. Might be a good thing, but certainly not for anyone out here, as it just well freezing. Dangerous night.

COLD!!!!!

After a mild autumn, it is getting really cold. Really really cold. What we need is this: vin chaud (mulled wine, hot), maybe a knack (wiener), but most definitely choucroute (sauerkraut) and the quintessential flammekueche, or tarte flambée (here), the meal of gods!
And no, it is not a pizza, as they say on the link above! Blasphemy!!!

Standing tall

Whatever sad the weather might be, however bad the world news might be... We still are the Capitale de Noel, the Christmas capital!

Skywatch Friday

My daily commute, at 200 km/h, 125 miles an hour. I spend my weekdays at Sélestat, 45 km, 30 miles, south of Strasbourg. Long days, very little time for photos or blogging.
Skywatch Friday is here!

Monthly CDP theme day: transition

Found some time for this, still a few days left before my course starts...
Transition, from Aldous Huxley's utopian brave new world to Orwell's 1984... The yearly christmas market is on, attracting hundreds of thousands visitors. So, the city center is barricaded, for fear of bad guys. Bridges blocked as on the photo, cops everywhere, controls... Christmas time in fortress Strasbourg.
