Kougelhopf!

Oh man, I love that stuff! Sweet, with raisins, or salty, with walnuts and bacon bits (my favorite). Very common here in Alsace, but also in most central European countries.

The King!

Elvis has entered the american themed restaurant! I had an excellent hot dog, with bacon and a mountain of cheddar, onion rings, chips, corn dogs... You might notice the free beer sign. Underneath, it says: tomorrow. Guess I'll be back... lol  Viva Memphis! And Las Vegas, of course!

A favorite!

Oh I love my momos!!! Well ok, the ones at the Dillihaat market in New Delhi are better, but I'm happy with this small restaurant. Strasbourg a very multicultural food scene, Asian, Ethiopian, french Canadian, Korean, African, middle eastern... And many more.

Taste it before you buy it

Sausage galore. I've read somewhere that we have 2849 different sausages in France. 1520 in Germany. France: 1, Germany: 0! LOL. As I am half French, half German, that's a lot of sausages for me!!!

Flammekueche

This is fmammekueche, aka tarte flambée. Traditional and much beloved Alsatian dish. Some nincompoops call it the Alsatian pizza... Bread dough, sour cream, fromage blanc (cottage cheese), onions, bacon bits. To which you can add mushrooms (tarte flambée forestière), cheese (gratinée), salmon, and so on and so forth... The one above is with cheese. Can be sweet as well. And here it's how to bake it in a wood oven:
Wanna try it yourself? Just google: Alsatian tarte flambee recipe. It is absolutely DELICIOUS!!!

Pont Saint Martin

An old 16th century tannery, now a restaurant since the early 20th century. They serve mainly typical Alsatian food, they a good rating. As for me, it's a bit on the (too) expensive side.

Yummy!!!

Local Alsatian food, a mix of German and French culinary traditions. More about it here.

Nachos, quesadilla, tacos!

And not a single burrito in sight... Sigh. One of the very few south or central American restaurants in town.
Ok, quesadilla, come to daddy!

L'épicerie

Nice place for a quick snack in town. With or without a glass of wine. Better sit inside, it's a cold and wet weather.

Baeckeoffe!

(Not so) Typical alsatian stoneware. Just what you need for a good baeckeoffe! Vegans, vegetarians: don't click on the link! A baeckeoffe, well done, is just divine

Not only for Christmas!

Traditional Alsatian kugelopf (many ways to write it), originally eaten for Christmas. You can get them (or make them) anytime and everywhere now. Either sweet, with raisins and almonds, or salty, with bacon bits and nuts. I love them both!

A very official symbol

1749??? You've gotta be kidding! It's sooo much older! Pretzel in the US, Brezel in Germany, Bretzel or Bretstel in Alsacian. This is the official symbol for the region Alsace:

Anyway, more info here.

December CDP theme day: comfort food

Comfort food... For me, it is pizza (among others, alsatian Flammekueche, most greek or indian food, thai, chinese, ethiopian...), preferably from a wood oven, preferably in Italy!

More comfort food right here
