CDP July theme day: climate

Well ok, this is an Imoca 60, a very nice way to go around... the world, if you have the time (and the money) for it. Or a sponsor.
Why this photo??? There is an engine on board, but it is mainly wind powered. There are more and more wind powered cargo ships, some of them gigantic, like the Japanese MOL, the French Canopée, the Swedish Oceanbird, an American whose name I forgot, to quote just a few. There are solar powered ships as well. Wind- and solar power are the future, furthermore as there is no planet B.

More posts and photos about this theme here. And more weekend reflections right... here.

Pont Saint Martin

An old 16th century tannery, now a restaurant since the early 20th century. They serve mainly typical Alsatian food, they a good rating. As for me, it's a bit on the (too) expensive side.

A little rain, finally!

After 41 dry days, we had a small short lived thunderstorm last night. First rain since early May. Just on time for umpteenth birthday! But not enough by a far cry.

Not my thing

Alsatians love beer! I don't, can't stand it. Many breweries in town, ranging from very small micro breweries to giants like  Heineken.

Feeling amused

I came upon this poster, advertising a big music festival, 150 km south. Feeling amused... The names of some of these bands sound pretty silly (to me, anyway): Dinos, Coach party, Dry Cleaning, Yard Act, Baby Volcano, Joe Unknown, Kids Return, Pertubator, Big Bertha, Unknown T... I know only a few of them (but none of the quoted ones), guess I'm stuck with oldies, lol. Wondering if the Shygirl is really shy... LOL

The Genoese Galata Tower

Up a steep hill, but worth the climb... There was a Genoese (from the Italian city of Genova/Genoa) colony in Constantinople (old name of Istanbul) from 1267 till 1453. Marco Polo's merchant father, Niccolo, lived here with his brother Maffeo in 1260. More about the tower here.

One of the many galleries or passages, pasaj, in Istanbul's "modern town". I don't remember this one's name, but another pasaj is named Aznavour.

PS: found it: Ă§içek Pasaj, flower passage
