Le troquet des kneckes

Nice restaurant in the city center, with some rather special wall mountings. Troquet des kneckes means the boy's pub, in a mix of french and southern alsatian dialect. Yeah, down there in Mulhouse, they have kneckes. Here we have buwe.

So many names!!!

Here, we call them knack. Further down in France, they are called Strasbourg sausages. Elsewhere, they are franks, frankfurters, in Germany, they are called Wiener, viennese sausages. Very international things! How do you call them?
History tells us they were first invented in Strasbourg, some 500 years ago. Best with mustard, or with sauerkraut!

Oink!

Well, being a city guy, I don't know if the farmer give wine to their pigs. I doubt it.
This said, we cook a LOT with wine, mostly of the white persuasion. Check out this beauty here! Vegetarians, DON'T CLICK ON THE LINK!!!
Sorry about the 'typical' french music (and the publicity) on the video.

Bon appetit!

A short introduction to Alsatian baking. The ubiquitous beignets (donuts) of course. No ringed ones here. The kougelhopf (many ways of spelling it...). Either sweet, with raisins and almonds, or salted, with bacon bits and walnuts.
In the bags, you can see different varieties of 'bredele', Alsatian for biscuits.
What will it be, sweet kougelhopf, or salty kougelhopf?

Hungry? Une petite faim?

A very illuminated restaurant near the cathedral, very popular with tourist but not that much with the locals. We eat very well here in Alsace, btw!!!

Restaurant joliment illumine a la cathedrale. Bonne nourriture alsacienne! Tres prise par les touristes, beaucoup moins par les gens du coin. Les torchons et les serviettes...

My favorite during the festive season: hot chestnuts! Want some???

Marrons chauds, mes amours! Meme si ce sont des chataignes!
