Summer in the city

28 degrees C, 83 F as I write this on Saturday afternoon. Ice cream weather!

My trusty main camera died, RIP. So back to my 12 years old Canon DSLR, by far not a sharp as my poor Leica. New camera coming soon.

Not my car!

I went to a pop culture exhibition this weekend. Saw this car in a dark corner... No bats around.

A replica of the batmobile, btw.

Wanderlust

My dream house, on a small Portuguese island, Armona. The urge to travel is upon me! Preferably to some place I haven't been before. Well, we'll see where it will take me. Maybe Vietnam.

s'Kaafhüs

The former mooring places on the 1358 AD custom house. Boats on the Rhine had to declare their goods, tobacco, wine, salt. A custom house with an inn, since 1401 AD for centuries, a market later, a trendy restaurant nowadays.

Hendrika Johanna

The Hendrika Johanna barge is a beautiful so-called pleasure boat. 10 meters in length, 2 meters wide. A Dutch barge, based in Alkmaar, Netherlands. I've seen her in Paris, a while ago

A blast from the past

Meeting Janis, the four boys from Liverpool, Zagor, the Floyd, Asterix and Obelix in Belgrade, 18 months ago. I really need to go back to the Balkans, so much still to see there! And it's relatively cheap, which is good for my small pension.

Place du Marché Neuf

Or New Market Square, minutes away from the cathedral. The "new" market dates back to 1738 AD, until the late 19th century. Nowadays, it's a shady parking lot, with a nice fountain.

I keep wondering about the number of "Newmarkets" wordwide...

Old books and foie gras

2  specialties in Strasbourg, UNESCO book world capital 2024: ancient books and foie gras from ducks. A good book and some foie gras on a warm toast. And a nice cup of coffee, of course!

Typical

Typical houses in the old town. Most are dating back to the 15th century, some much older, as early as the late 13th (1298 AD).

Fighting religious hatred

I posted this photo 3 years ago. The LGBTQ theme decorated tramway. 3 years ago. To this day, I am still getting hateful comments, mainly from so-called "Christians" in the US (so it seems) and from Muslims. The last one today. Good enough reasons for posting it again. Fuck those religious assholes                                                                            ☝
I'm a atheist hetero btw, but it does not matter!

Meiselocker

A statue in the old town , gifted by the city of Munich in 1929. It's the tit piper. Tit, the birds, meise in Alsatian, mésanges in French. A poem on it's base, in Alsatian:

“Hey guys, it’s a beautiful morning.

You don't want us to attract tits?

There, in the Rhine forest, or in the lark field,

There are great tits, blue tits,

crested tits in large numbers.

Anyone who has never baited tits is not a real boy! »

Le Chat des Rives de l'Aar

The cat from the Aar river bank. A statue by Alain Séchas,

"What interests me in the archetype of the cat [...] it is his amazement of stupor, his eyes, his absence of a smile which have been there since eternity, of the Egyptian cat to the one that caresses on his knees." A. Séchas

[...] This sculpture is placed in parallel with the river; On the road and rail, a real indicator of the flows, and the arrows on the asphalt also seem to indicate the meaning of its movement. If this cat is part of a before or after the scene on the neighboring ticket column, it is also available for other narrative connections linked to the vagaries of traffic. He carries the memory of the statuary, it is she who gives him his posture, but his gaze is turned towards the present and it is not accomplished as a work as in the passage of a train.

An old fortification around town, defending Strasbourg from the bad French or German armies, depending of the years/centuries... Photo taken last autumn.
