End of lockdown...
I only drink to celebrate, birthdays, Christmas, etc. But, when the lockdown finally ends (partially on May 11th in France), I will have a nice flammekueche or 2, and a nice drink!

Sorry, we are closed
Cafés, restaurants, cinemas, concert halls, theaters, operas, etc, are closed at least till mid-July. I'm wondering how many will be able to reopen, with no income for 4 months, or longer.

Saint Valentine's day massacre
This
footbridge is historically located near the Porte des Juifs. This gate of the
old enclosure of Strasbourg led to the cemetery which was close to the current
place of the Republic where more than 900 Jews, that is to say half of the
Jewish population of Strasbourg, were burned alive on February 14, 1349. Many of the survivors fled abroad. Some made it to Venice, to the Ghetto area.
This sad
episode is known as "Pogrom de Strasbourg" or "Saint-Valentine
massacre".
At that
time, there was the threat of an epidemic of black plague (bubonic) which will
make nearly 25 million deaths in Europe. Before it even declares itself in
Strasbourg, the Jews will be accused of poisoning the wells. A bad excuse
invoked in particular by bad payers not wanting to repay their debts, or worse,
robbing their property.
The bridge
has existed since 1858. But it was destroyed by the bombings of the
Franco-Prussian War of 1870/1871. It was immediately replaced by a metal arch
bridge in 1871

Salty!
I cook a lot, I love it! But I use very little salt, for health reasons, I prefer spices, oriental spices. But this might change my habits... What is Norwegian viking salt? Or sel fou, crazy salt??? Or sel des voyageurs, traveller's salt?

Green
Confinement, day 22. I am used to being on my own for long times, which makes the confinement much easier for me than for most. Some of you will know what I'm talking about: I've had my fair share of vitamin oCean! So, I'm doing fine .The Orangerie park in town is what I miss most today. Photo taken last spring.

Overeating
No, no sweets today, but an Indian recipe, cabbage with rice, with a dozen spices. The problem with being blocked at home is overeating. Trying to keep it at bay. A guy here in France run a marathon on his 7 meters long balcony. 6029 lengths, in 6 hours...

A Monday Mural
Confinement, week 2. Well, he looks bored. I'm not! I have about a hundred cookbooks (never counted them), and with 2 small supermarkets 5 minutes away, I try to diversify my alimentation. What about you, how do you survive?

Lockdown
Well... I was supposed to fly to Istanbul for a few days this week... A much needed break. Problem: France is a Covid-19 hotspot. So, a few days ago, Turkey imposed a 14 days quarantine to all coming from France and a few other countries. And then, was night, France was put on lockdown, until further notice. Can't even visit my old mum in her retirement home.
PLEASE DON'T COME TO FRANCE!!!

Café Atlantico
We have several barges in town, used for theater, cabaret, culture, and... coffee. Soon enough, it will be warm enough to enjoy a coffee in the sun. But not today.
