A belated and shortsighted Monday mural...

Yep, that's me alright! Robert le miro has been my nickname during my young years... Miro is french slang for shortsighted, or someone wearing glasses. And yep, I'm Robert, I've been wearing glasses since the age of 3, well over 50 years.
And no, I'm not related to the other guy... Or to Joan Miro (wonder if he was wearing glasses???)
More colourful Monday Murals at Sami's.

Resistance is futile.

It's back to school today in France, for millions of kids! Thousands of teachers started last week, to prepare classes, do paperwork, to prepare themselves... Shocking news: smartphones are forbidden in all schools from today! Oh well, guess kids will have to use their heads instead.

September 1st CDP theme day: teach

I am fairly proficient in Adobe's Lightroom, filters, HDR, ACR, and so on, but nothing more complicated. So, I bought the books, watching the videos and trying to TEACH myself what must be the most complex photography editing program: Photoshop. Again. Wish me luck! :-)
More on the TEACH theme here.

Not Strasbourg

Right. This blog is called Strasbourg daily photo, and other meanderings of a nomad. I am the nomad... So, this blog is mainly about my hometown, but not only...I love murals, but there are not many around. Therefore, during my frequent trips, I am always looking for them, and I post them here, on Facebook and Instagram. My meandering murals.
This one was taken in Paris, 19th arrondissement, near la Villette.

Before people

I love walking in town very early... I did the same whilst living abroad, Barcelona, Amsterdam, Dublin, New Delhi, and so on and so forth... It's all so quiet, as the singer Bjork used to say 20 or so years ago, all so quiet and peaceful, until...

Silly

Silly strasbourgeois trying to walk on water? Or is he trying to the waters? A silly Moses having lost his way to the Red Sea? Questions, so many unanswered questions....

Genova

My heart tonight goes to the city on Genoa, Genova, where a bridge of the main highway linking the city to France and the rest of Italy, collapsed this morning, killing at least 30 people. I was there last summer.

Early morning at the Duomo

I've been Milan far over 100 times, changing trains, bus or planes for about 37 years, but I've never stopped there. Until yesterday. The sheer beauty of the Duomo, Milan's cathedral...

It's another Hétfő fal, folks!

Mr Rubik, who will always be in our memories, is a Hungarian citizen, and still lives in Buda. Not in Pest: in Buda I said! Anyway, he left at least this other mark, not in Buda, but in Pest!
Confused? This too will pass, no worries!
Check out more Monday Murals, right here!

When in Rome...

Oops, sorry: not Rome, my apologies. This was in Split, Croatia, yesterday, while having a hearty breakfast at the"Caffé de Floré".
The guys posed for selfies, from mostly Asian tourists. And didn't even ask for money!
Explanation. Former roman emperor Diocletian, after quitting his day job, has himself a "retirement villa" built. A huge palace in the place which would become Spalato in italian, Split in croatian.

600.000

This the magnificent great synagogue of Budapest. Very impressive building, the second largest synagogue in the world, but rather strange: built by Christians, looking like a church dressed in Moorish garb, with an organ (Liszt and Saint-Saens played on it), an altar at the end, instead of a more traditional bimah, at the center... Budapest Jews have their own form of Judaism, called neologia, the new word in Greek.
As for this blog's title: 600.000 Hungarian Jews were murdered in Budapest, Auschwitz and Birkenau, in 2 months, according to my guide...
More about the synagogue here, and more about local Jewish history here

ROADTRIP!!!

I'm off, for a week or 2, to south-eastern Europe, to Hungary, Serbia, Kosovo, Crna Gorn (aka Montenegro, the black mountain, hoping I wont start WW3 there), Macedonia, maybe Greece, eventually Turkey. Plan subject to my whim. Not sure about internet strength down there, I might not be able to post every day.
Anyway, c ya, leaving in a few hours, at 3 AM, yawn.
Oh yeah: no plane involved. Coach, trains, ferries.
