The 455th Strasbourg Christmas market, better known as Christkindelsmaerik, will close on December 24th at 6 PM. To the relief of locals.

The great synagogue

The former great synagogue of Strasbourg, burned down by the nazis in 1940 and destroyed one year later. Now replaced by a shopping mall. The actual Peace Synagogue was built in 1954, a few km away in the Neustadt.

Commanderie Saint Jean

Aka prison Ste Marguerite, aka Ecole Nationale d'Administration, aka Institut national du service public.

At first a chapelbuilt around 1150, then a convent, through the centuries a big commandery built by the Knights of the Teutonic order, later in 1520 a hospital for syphilitic patients, in 1734 a prison for women. In 1993, it became the ENA, formerly in Paris, a school for senior officials (Macron studied here, former french presidents François Hollande, Jacques Chirac, Valery Giscard Destaing, countless ministers, and many foreigners studied in Paris.) Since 2022, Institut national du service public, more or less the same thing, with a new name.

Plenty fishes in the river Ill! A 12 years old boy recently caught a 7 feet catfish (2.15 meters), weighing 167 ponds, 76 kg.
