A Monday Mural

Seen in Faro, Portugal, a while back.
"Bullets will kill a freedom fighter, but not his ideas". Doctor Ernesto "Che" Guevara. Murdered by the american CIA in 1967.

The tramway bridge over the Rhine river, joining France and Germany. The borders have long gone, fortunately.

Are you losing your marbles?

Here's a refill, at the rue du jeu des enfants, children's play street, Strasbourg.

May walkabout

Well, I've been away for a few days, Amsterdam, Rome, Florence, Venice, and I obviously took hundreds of photos (so happy to live in a digital photo age).
This is my home from home, Venice, Venezia.

Poor Vincent!

What did they do to you!
Seen 2 hours ago on the Ponte Vecchio, in Florence, Tuscany, Italia.

We sell

I'm always amazed, sometimes amused, sometimes aghast by the things some are willing to buy in some ultra-tourist places... This is Michaelangelo's David in Florence, Tuscany, btw. Well, just a tiny piece of him.
Would you buy this??? I wouldn't. No f...ing way.

Weekend in black & white

Early this morning at the Castel Sant'Angelo in Rome, Roma, la citta eterna. Tom Hanks went into some trouble there... :-)
My first time in Rome, after over 35 years... One bit of advice, maybe... AVOID THE METRO AT ALL COST!!! It is somewhere between abysmal and catastrophic, an utter disgrace.

Well, as usual, take a look at the Dragonstar's den, over there.
And you will enjoy more reflections here.

Monday Murals

 New, by local artist Dan23

Monsanto, Total, Apple are without a doubt champions in destroying our planet. We are millions, they are just giants with clay feet
If I die, you die.

Weekend in black and white

I took this photo on a very chilly -close to freezing actually- April morning, at around 6.30 or 7 am, looking for coffee. In Venice. So, I guess this guy and his dog might have been going to work, in the San Polo area of town.
As St Mark is the holy patron of Venice, many many (and many more) men are called Marco. So this might well be Marco, from San Polo... Well, in San Polo anyway.
I finally found an open bar shortly after . Un espresso per piacere, Signore!

To my great joy, I'll be back there in a few days. Venezia is like home to me.

More b&w here.
And more weekend reflections here.

Purple

The color purple= problem! I am partially color blind, so I can't really recognize purple. Not good for a photographer! Well, I'll try it anyway

This might be purple, or maybe not, you decide. I just don't know.

Post 1000

The feline equivalent to internet spyware...lol

1000th post for this blog, many more on my other blogs. I'm fighting a blogger's block, it's getting hard. Henceforth, I will carry on posting, but less regularly. I started blogging in Dublin, in December 2006, and I need a break.
No worries, Dragonstar's b&w crew, you'll see me every Friday! You'll see me here, but not necessarily on this Strasbourg blog of mine.

A farmhouse

Looks very old... Very often the foundation date is engraved on the lintel, but I couldn't find anything here. My  (educated) guess would be 15th century, but it could be older. From a time when Bilbo was young.

Kehl am Rhein

Our tiny neighbor city, in Germany, just across the Europa bridge, just across the Rhine river, 15 minutes from Strasbourg city center. A part of Strasbourg, from 1939 till 1953
As many things are cheaper in Germany,, cigarettes, food, cosmetics, and as Strasbourg is 30 times bigger, there always more frenchies than Germans in town. It is pretty much a bilingual town, which is very good!

Somewhere in the Petite France area, in the old town, there is this hidden courtyard, with a strange tree. Not sure what it is about.

Under construction

A brand new gigantic mural, here in Strasbourg, in the Esplanade area. Painted over the dull front of a student home. A close up, to appreciate the size of it:

No, this the lovely small town of Marsaxlokk, Malta. Overrun with tourist, even in February.

Waiting for the S-Bahn, aka metro, at Berlin central station, last December. No ballet in Spandau for me though.:-)

Stork reintroduction center

We used to have many storks here, but in 1972, the number was down to only 5 couples. Thanks to this center and to several charities, there are now approximately 750 couples in Alsace, about 60 of them in the Orangerie park, next to the Council of Europe.
