Naughty!

An army of naughty dwarves showing me the finger. I chose not to be offended.

Sunday 17 April 2022

About 170

About 170 bridges over rivers and canals in Strasbourg. Small number compared to the 438 Venice bridges, but hey, they have more canals than we do!

Saturday 16 April 2022

Waiting for tourists

The boarding places for the sightseeing boats going around the canals. The tourists are coming back, fortunately, after 2... strange years.

Friday 15 April 2022

Hello, bunnies, looks like Easter!

You know the drill: more b&w for the weekend here.

Happy Easter, joyeuses Pâques, frohe Ostern!

A lamp?

OK, quite frankly, I don't remember taking this photo. I haven't been back to Venice since the start of Covid, and I usually hundreds of photos every time I go there, which is 3-4 times a year. Anyway,  suppose it is a quite intricate lamp. What do you think

Old photo. The cathedral is still being repaired, hopefully reopening in 2025

Blooming magnolia

Whenever I see magnolias, I know: spring has arrived!
Free earworm!
I know... It's awful... I have sometimes (very rarely though) an evil streak... LOL

A Monday Mural

Weird beastie...Is it eating the tree, or does the tree come out of it??? Or trying to grow a lemon tree in a ...is it a fish??? This reminds me of a famous Hieronymus Bosch painting.
The text above, le sans pépins, means the seedless one. With or without seeds, I like lemon juice on my fish. If it's a fish, of course...
Anyway, do you want to see more murals? Easy, just click here!

A town hall

Basel, Switzerland, has a unique, 16th century town hall. Originally painted by Hans Holbein around 1522.

Weekend reflection in black and white

One more shot from a stroll in the Orangerie park, by almost summerly weather. Well, snow expected here tonight and tomorrow, the first, and hopefully last for this past winter.

More b&w here, as usual on Friday. And more reflection posts here.

It is the CDP theme day as well, about symmetry. Have a look!

Thursday 31 March 2022

Perched

Enjoying the sunshine. In France, according to tradition, babies are born in a cabbage. But here in Alsace, storks bring the new born babies, special delivery. How is it  in your tradition?

A Monday Mural

Missy did it! I had never heard of her, but I saw (and posted)  several murals of her. Kodos to a local artist!
 More Monday Murals right... here.

Weekend in black and white

Summer day in the park... Yes: summer. And yes: today. Bliss!

                                                             More b&w here.

It's an art!

The art of tossing pizza in the air, and not getting them on your head. Many years training, I suppose.

A sign of times

This is Isaak Iselin. Isaak was a 18th century swiss philosopher of history and politics. I really wonder what he would think of today's world...

More b&w right...here.

Monday 14 March 2022

Faster, pussycat!

More Monday Murals here.

Today, 2 years and 1 day after the first lockdown in France, end of the mask and covid pass mandate. You'll only need to wear  masks in public transports, hospitals and retirement homes. For how long, as the incidence is rising?????????

Sunday 13 March 2022

Solidarity with Ukraine

A regional administration building. It says: Alsace, land of the human rights, in solidarity with Ukrainian people.

Yo soy magia

Yo soy magia, I am magic. Might be the door of a spanish-speaking, flower loving magician, here in Strasbourg. Well, we are a very international town!

Wednesday 9 March 2022

The raven's courtyard

Probably the most beautiful hotel in town, with prices starting at 242 euros/night. It's a renovated 16th century building in the city center, an inn since at least 1528 AD.

Monday 7 March 2022

A Monday "mural"

Compared to other places, we don't have many murals in Strasbourg. But most mail boxes or electric boxes have been decorated. Many of them by local artist Jaek El Diablo.

Many more real murals here.

Sunday 6 March 2022

Climb the fence...

... at your own risk. A word of warning: this might hurt. They look almost like disused halberds.

Saturday 5 March 2022

Cataplanas reflections

A cataplana is an item of cookware used to prepare Portuguese seafood dishes, popular in the country's Algarve region. The cataplana is also the name of a typical dish down there.
As usual, more weekend reflections right...HERE

🦋 🦋 🦋 🦋 🦋 🦋 🦋 🦋 🦋 🦋

A few years ago, a group of locals decorated a pedestrian street in the city center, the aptly named "children's play street", rue du jeu des enfants. The whole streets, walls, they painted even the pavement. Good job!

More b&w here, for your weekend.

Thursday 3 March 2022

Vicus caecorum

Vicus caecorum in 1252, or blind street now. Rue des aveugles in French, Blindegässel in Alsatian (no, not German...) It describes my life pretty well. I have a bad case of cataract, waiting for an operation. The world is hazy. Oh well, I still can see enough to post, read, cook... Everything will be much clearer and brighter after the painless operation. Can't wait!

Wednesday 2 March 2022

Open!

Good news! Since yesterday, you can have a drink on a terrace, without a mask, and without having to show a Covid pass! I think I'll have a coffee!
