Appropriate

Seen in a shop window. The next heatwave, canicule in french, starts tomorrow. The definition of canicule: at least 3 days in a row, with day temperature over 31C (38, they say, from tomorrow), and 21 C at night. Joy.

Yet another photo of the growing sea in Strasbourg, by Dan23. Work still ongoing.
More Monday Murals here.

A weekend reflection

The barrage Vauban, part of the 17th century fortifications protecting Strasbourg from the evil Prussians. The ugly black building on the side is the hotel du département, an office building.

City Daily Phito theme day: city people

Most people over the age of 11 are masked. Good.
More theme photos here, social distanced :-)

Antique weekend in black and white

I'm always amazed, surprised, intrigues and amused when I see antique shops. What would you buy?
More black and white photos here.

A detail of the cathedral. No idea what it is, or why it's there.
Let's call him... Donald.

The entrance to the stables wing, at the Rohan palace. More about it (and them) right here.

Benvenuti a Roma!

Welcome to Rome! Well, no. It's actually in the inner courtyard of the Rohan's family palace, in Strasbourg (princes, cardinals, etc). I guess the bust represents one of the Rohans, no name I could see. They sure loved roman style architecture!

Empty

A new working day ahead, for captain and crew. Still very few tourists.

Monday 20 July 2020

A Monday Mural

Another exotic creature by Dan23 on the place de la Vignette in Strasbourg.

A weekend reflection

A very classic view of the heart of the Petite France area, a perfect reflection: no wind or waves, no ducks, no boats... There must be millions of similar photos or postcards... Well, this is mine.
More reflections here.

Setting up the restaurant for lunch, photo taken this morning. Wonderful weather today! The (European) tourist are back, but no Americans, Chinese, Japanese...

Monday 13 July 2020

La tête dans les nuages

Head in the clouds: someone who is easily distracted.
Well, Monday is usually when I post murals. This isn't really a mural, as the street artist Dan23 painted a small square, place de la Vignette, in Strasbourg. Hard to take a photo of the whole square/painting, always delivery trucks parking on it. Or you can click here , french only.
Real murals here.

Strasbourg is totally land-locked. Can't wait to be back on the sea!

Sunday 5 July 2020

The flâneur

Fernando Pessoa, waiting for a coffee in front of the Brasileira coffee house, in the Chiado quarter, Lisbon. Pessoa was the greatest lusophone ( = portuguese speaking) poet. More about this very interesting person right here.
There must be millions of photos of this statue. Well, this is one of mine.

CDP monthly theme day: neighbourhood

Well, this is my immediate neighbourhood, as taken from my balcony this morning, in Ostwald, just outside Strasbourg. Ostwald, German for east forest, or east wood. No, Clint does not live here.
3 more schooldays for the kids at the back.
More about the theme all around the world here.

I miss Venice

I normally go there 2-4 times a year, but I haven't in months... Hopefully soon.

Fête de la COVID

The yearly Fête de la musique was.... Special. Oh ok, it was joyous and entertaining, misicians on boats, bicycles, jazz, rock...
What was extremely disturbing  was the big groups, hundreds of people, no social distancing, no masks in sight. Fête de la musique, or fête de la COVID?

Wednesday 24 June 2020

RIP, Wolf musique

The oldest music shop in town, killed by COVID and by the lack of help of the french goverment.
